Food Prosperity Central 15 Day Stay-Home "Camp"

Updated: Mar 27, 2020

Greetings Beloved Greater Yelm Community,

As you all know, Gov. Inslee issued a statewide stay-home order tonight to slow the virus. "To be socially irresponsible during these times is to risk the lives of our loved ones," Inslee said. "We want to get back to normal as soon as possible. The fastest way to get back to normal is to hit this hard."

Let's support this order by finding ways to keep happy and productive while we have this down time and figure out all the ways we can strengthen our local food system, which obviously needs strengthened given the food shortages, long lines, and lots of anxiety around food. This really is the silver lining, so let's start recreating our food system here in Greater Yelm with a 15-day online community engaged experience, and come out of this smarter, wiser and more food secure.

For any of you who are IN for this, here we go. Your first assignment is to read every word in the Food Prosperity Central dot org website. You don't have to do it all at once, but every word was put there intentionally. Then contemplate where your interests are, what skills do you have, what skills could you share, what skills do you want to develop and most importantly at least one step you can take to start growing your own food if you aren't already. If you are, then one step that moves you along.

We hope this inspires you into action as a community with a vision of a food secure Yelm community. We can use these 15 days to dream the dream, so let's start dreaming and learning together!

All the best,

Susie

P.S. Soon I'll be sharing planting and growing tips from Mari of Mari's Farm. She knows they will not be able to grow all the food everyone in our community is going to want this year so she will share her tips to help you have a successful garden growing experience this season.
